
Oportunity to join the Southeast Bioethics Network as a Research Officer
based at Universiti Malaya, Malaysia
The Faculty of Law, Universiti Malaya, the Centre for Biomedical Ethics, National University
of Singapore and the Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit, Oxford University
will set up a Southeast Asian Bioethics Network with support from the Wellcome Trust. This
Network will widen and work with the bioethics community in Southeast Asia to establish a
research agenda that brings to the forefront voices that are not well captured in current
bioethics discourses.
We are pleased to invite applications from individuals who are interested to be a Research
Officer for this new initiative and work with us to develop this network to build a vibrant,
inclusive and collaborative bioethics community in Southeast Asia.
The main responsibilities of the Research Officer are:
- Provide research support (e.g. literature search review, preparation of manuscripts for publication) for the Network Lead and for the activities of the Network
- Provide support for grant application writing
- Assist with the organization of the network activities
- Participate in network activities and meetings as required
- Contribute to the network’s newsletter, social media engagement, and stakeholder engagement
- Assist in the preparation of presentations to share the network and its work
- Perform other duties, commensurate with the role, based on project need
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in a relevant discipline or field (e.g. bioethics, philosophy, healthcare, science)
- Ability to work independently and to take initiative when necessary
- Good writing and analytical abilities
- Ability to work in a team and collaboratively to meet deadlines
Desirable
- Experience or strong interest in bioethics research, particularly in the ethics of migration health or the ethics of emerging technologies in Southeast Asia (the current research themes of the Network)
- Interest in doing a PhD in Bioethics
