We see the development and the understanding of law to be crucial in the progress of and development of a just society. To that end, we have established research centres within our faculty which link the Law with other disciplines.
In addition to these research centres, the Faculty also hosts groups and teams which generally have a narrower focus on particular areas of Law.
Research Centres
Established 21st April 2008, UMCoRS is a focal point for multi-disciplinary research where the law intersects business, economics, innovation, growth and competition. It meets the demands for knowledge in the area of regulatory studies. It develops and delivers training and capacity building workshops, seminars, conferences as well as regulatory research.

Research Groups / Teams
The Constitutional Literacy Initiative is a collaboration between the Malaysian Bar and the Faculty of Law, Universiti Malaya, which aims to promote and champion literacy of the Federal Constitution, democracy & the rule of law across all members of the Malaysian public. Both the Faculty and the Bar have a desire to promote Constitutional literacy and have determined that each brings unique expertise and experience necessary to accomplish these objectives.

Established in 2015, the PEACE Initiative (Prevent Elder Abuse and Neglect Initiative) is supported by a research grant funded by the University of Malaya (UM) Grand Challenge in support of the Ministry of Education (MOE) Malaysia.
PEACE focuses on research on elderly issues such as abuse and neglect.

The Faculty of Law, Universiti Malaya welcomes scholars and researchers from all around the world to visit the Faculty under the Visiting Fellows/Researchers Scheme. The Scheme provides visitors with access to facilities of the Faculty of Law (office, library privileges, attendance of and participation in any scholarly presentations at the Law School) in order for them to conduct research on an approved topic while in residence and to consult/collaborate with faculty members.
