UM RegTech Project

 

A multidisciplinary research project on regulatory technology located at the Faculty of Law, Universiti Malaya. It is a joint venture research project between the Universiti Malaya (UM), Quanta RegTech Capital (QRC) and Infinity Blockchain Holdings (IBH).

The UM RegTech Project aims to be the global leading RegTech research hub by conducting research, education and outreach programs related to RegTech, particularly on blockchain technologies.

The research project comprises of both academicians and students from four different faculties in UM, namely the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Economics and Administration, the Faculty of Computer Science and Technology and the Faculty of Business and Accountancy.

UM RegTech Project hopes to:

  1. Bring together academics, technologists, policymakers and members of the private sector for programs that explore blockchain’s impact on law, government and society;
  2. Set up a Centre specifically for blockchain research and create a community group of students and academicians in UM focused on blockchain-related initiatives;
  3. Collaborate with government, private entities, NGOs and educational institutions on the use and adoption of blockchain technologies.

UM RegTech Project welcomes partnership or collaboration opportunities with interested external parties to conduct research, education and outreach programs.

  Blockchain Sukuk Report 2021.

This research has been conducted by a research collaboration of five researchers from three Universities in Malaysia namely

  • Universiti Malaya (UM), 
  • International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and 
  • International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF).
 

The report provides findings on blockchain sukuk to investigate its legal, Shariah and regulatory risks and the potential of using RegTech in its compliance. The research was conducted under the Industry-Academia Collaborative Research Project between UM, and Quanta RegTech Capital plc (QRC). Funding was provided under Grant No. IF057A-2018 by QRC.  The information in this Report is updated as of May 2021.
