Grand Dining and Inaugural Benching Ceremony of His Excellency, The Government of Sarawak

KUCHING, 2 August 2025 — The grandeur of the Malaysian legal fraternity reached new heights as Inns of Court Malaysia (ICM) hosted a momentous occasion: the Grand Dining in Conjunction with the Inaugural Benching Ceremony of His Excellency, The Government of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar. Held at the prestigious Raia Hotel & Convention Centre, Kuching, the evening stood as a testament to tradition, legal excellence, and national unity.

The ceremony was graced by an illustrious line-up of Malaysia’s highest-ranking judicial dignitaries, transforming the night into a spectacular confluence of wisdom, legacy, and prestige. Among the most eminent guests were:

Yang Amat Arif Dato’ Wan Ahmad Farid bin Wan Salleh, Chief Justice, Malaysia,

Yang Amat Arif Dato’ Abu Bakar bin Jais, President of The Court of Appeal,

Yang Amat Arif Tan Sri Hasnah binti Dato' Mohammed Hashim, Chief Judge of The High Court of Malaya,

Yang Amat Arif Datuk Hajjah Azizah binti Haji Nawawi, Chief Judge of the High Court in Sabah and Sarawak

Their esteemed presence not only elevated the ceremonial significance but also inspired all attendees through speeches brimming with legal acumen, judicial foresight, and a profound reverence for the rule of law.


The academic arena was strongly represented by the visionary Professor Dr. Jason Chuah, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Universiti Malaya, alongside the distinguished Datin Sri Associate Professor Norbani Mohamed Nazeri, who both emphasised the symbiotic relationship between legal education and national progress.


Present also was YBhg Dato Sri Talat Mahmood bin Abdul Rashid, former Sarawak State Attorney General, and also a former lecturer of the Faculty of Law, Universiti Malaya.


Universiti Malaya’s law students from both Kuala Lumpur and Kuching campuses added a youthful vibrance to the evening, exemplifying Malaysia’s future legal torchbearers. Their participation in such a formal occasion not only highlighted their potential but also underscored the importance of nurturing young legal minds through tradition, mentorship, and exposure.


This landmark event was more than a ceremonial gathering. It was a celebration of Malaysia’s judicial integrity, Sarawak’s growing legal stature, and the unwavering commitment to justice, equality, and national unity.
