University of Malaya, Faculty of Law.
12 November 2019
The team from University of Malaya Faculty of Law won the 14th LAWASIA International Mooting competition 2019. This is UM’s second consecutive year as champion. Since 2005, the LAWASIA International Moot Competition has been a platform for students to argue topics, ranging from international human rights to international commercial arbitration. This year, the competition was held at Hong Kong Shue Yan University from the 5th to the 8th of November 2019 as part of the 32nd LAWASIA Conference.
The truly Malaysian UM team consisting of Ms Zafirah Jaya, Ms Esther Hong and Mr Nevyn Vinosh put in a stellar effort to beat the NUS Faculty of Law three times including in the finals and reign supreme over the teams from the top Law Schools in Asia Pacific - crystalising the position of UM Faculty of Law as a purveyor of legal education par excellence.
Their coaches Lee Suan Cui and Raphael Kok expressed thanks on behalf of the team to the Dean and Faculty, whose unstinting support and encouragement was a key ingredient in the formation of this and other champion mooting teams from University of Malaya.
The Faculty is immensely proud of all our mooting teams, who work hard and long to be the best that they can be.
