University of Malaya Law Review Legal Writing Competition 2026

[THE UNIVERSITY OF MALAYA LAW REVIEW LEGAL WRITING COMPETITION 2026]

The University of Malaya Law Review (‘UMLR’) is pleased to announce the opening of its inaugural Legal Writing Competition 2026. This competition is designed to serve as a premier platform for aspiring legal scholars to engage in rigorous research and critical analysis of contemporary legal doctrines.

I. TOPIC

“An arbitration clause lives on even when the contract around it crumbles, but does the doctrine of separability always deliver justice?”

Participants are invited to explore the nuances of Arbitration Law, specifically examining the practical and ethical implications of the doctrine of separability within modern dispute resolution frameworks.

II. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Participation is open to all undergraduate LL.B students currently enrolled at universities recognised by the Legal Profession Qualifying Board (‘LPQB’), Malaysia. We welcome diverse perspectives from across the national legal academic landscape.

III. AWARDS & RECOGNITION

The UMLR Editorial Board, in conjunction with our sponsoring partners, will award the following:

1st Place: RM 1,500 + Publication in UMLR + Internship + Official Certificate

2nd Place: RM 1,000 + Publication in UMLR + Internship + Official Certificate

3rd Place: RM 800 + Publication in UMLR + Internship + Official Certificate

IV.  REGISTRATION & SUBMISSION TIMELINE

Registration Period: 25th January – 25th March 2026

Final Submission Deadline: 1st April 2026 at 11:59 PM.

The Participant’s Package, which contains the comprehensive manuscript guidelines and evaluation criteria, is accessible through the registration link. Upon successful submission of the registration form, a formal acknowledgement email will be dispatched.
